> I am getting ready to start teaching my son how to read and have had both the Spalding method and Sing, Spell, Read and Write highly recommended to me. I can see the obvious differences in them such as SSRW using lots of games, tapes etc. while Spalding does not, but I haven't figured out how they are different in the meat of what they teach and if one is really better than the other in actual content. Frankly, SSRW looks like much more fun, but I don't want to use it for that reason alone. Can anyone fill me in on this? Thank you! Try this board (it's a message board purely for reading and math issues in homeschooling). Look through...there are many posts worth reading, and you can post your question there. Since this message board (here) is so new, it's not quite active yet. You'll get a lot of responses on the VegSource board: http://www.vegsource.com/wwwboard/reading/wwwboard.html Happy choosing!
