> We tried the Cannon Press Latin I two years ago and we never finished it. It was hard to pull together since I had never taken Latin before. The teacher guide was not easy to follow nor did it have enough explanation for me. > This year my oldest is in the seventh grade and he is using Henle's Latin. I have to admit that the vocabulary from Cannon Press has come in handy. It is a slow go as this text is very difficult but he is doing better then I am so I think we will stick it out. > > Latina Christiana is from Memoria Press and you can look at > a sample lesson on their website: www.memoriapress.com > > I haven't seen any samples of Matin Latin. I believe it was created by someone at Logos School in Idaho. > One of the biggest problems we had with Cannon Press was I didn't understand why some words had the endings they did. Latin has all those cases, declensions, and conjugations and I was in unfamiliar territory. The teacher guide for Latina Christiana seems to address the ignorance and confusion of people like me who are new to the joys of latin. We are using Matin Latin I for the first time this year and so far think it's wonderful. It's setup is similar to Wheelock's, in that it presents the English grammar first then the Latin. Canon Press has sample pages on their websites of both student and teacher's editions, so you can take a peek at their format. Incidently, I've had no prior Latin experience and this program has been very straightforward so far. We're using ecclesiastical pronounciation first, then we'll switch over to restored classical in high school. Let me know if you have any specific questions about ML I's format, and I'd be happy to help. Angela |
