    Nancy,

Since we only have the complete first and second grade
books, I cannot tell you about the others except what some
friends have told me.

There are six, small paperback books in each grade level for the early years. For each "set", there is a full-color lesson book, and two black and white workbooks. They are all quite thin, but make it easier to manage than having one large workbook. You are only using two books at any given time. The lesson book teaches the topic, and practices it several times. It will then direct you to an assigned page number in the workbook for additional practice. It is self-explanatory, and I have not found that we need a TM.
The pages are not very glossy, but are of a nice color such as SF. My 7 yr. old dd LOVES the international "flair", and is learning about different names (such as "Mingua" and "Devi"), but they also have plenty of English names as well. All of the books are written in English, using English terminology such as "tick" (for checkmark) and "queue", etc. After reading several number stories which use mangoes as a manipulative, we just had to go to the grocery store to try them out!
The money in Singapore is similar to ours, but not exact in denominations. We use real money when studying this, and dd has no problem in telling the difference. You can still use all of the problems which are in the book with U.S. currency.
Of course, all measurements are taught in metric terms, much to my dh's delight. He is an engineer by trade, and believes that our children need to learn metric FIRST, then U.S. meausurements along the way. All of his manufacturing materials are in metric, and he finds it most irritating that so few U.S. employees know how to use the system.

This post is becoming rather lengthy, so I will end here...
