Hi! Right from the outset I want to say I am a newbie so any help will be appreciated. Infact, we don't have anyone over preschool at home. One is displaying all the signs of "reading readiness" (he knows his alphabet, the sounds each letter makes, he points to signs, newspapers, books, and sounds out letters and asks me "what does this say mommy?" so I am not sure if I should look into some curriculum or just wait until he is older (he is not three yet.) I just purchased and have read through perhaps 1/3 of The Well Trained Mind. I appreciate the focus on the Trivium and I want to implement memorization in the grammar stage, including phonics, and I also want to begin history by presenting it systematically, as is suggested. However, I would echo another post I read on CCh's discussion board, and that is that I am not sure how I can insure that Biblical truth, and the infallibility of scripture is presented at home if I follow studies into Greek God's, history through time with Jesus presented in a timeline, etc. I mean to ask respectfully, and if you all have found that there is no contradiction, I would be interested in your perspective. I don't know if my very small children will understand the difference between the infallible Word of God and the Greek Gods. Has anyone chosen to adjust curriculum suggested in the TWTM? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance! CC |
